Shalaka Mukhopadhayay has been teaching Bharata Natyam to the student’s since Year 2000. Over the years she has trained many students who became experience teachers like her.

The year is divided into two quarters and one semester
First quarter: January to May
Second quarter: August to December

ALL CLASSES EXPIRES, NO EXTENSIONS, TRANSFERS, CREDIT OR REFUDS. TUITION IS DUE IN ADVANCE. Classes must be taken within 4 weeks, or they expire.

On first and second day of each month, ALL STUDENTS will take an extra ½ hour class. This is a compensation for students future missed classes.
1’st Year: 3:30 pm -- 5:00 pm
3’rd Year: 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm
2’nd Year: 6: 00 pm – 7:30 pm

We accept payments in checks only. There is a $ 20.00 charge for returned checks.

Registration fee for new enrollment $ 10.00 per students
Audio cd of Part – 1 $ 25.00
Audio cd of Part – 2 $ 25.00

Deepshikha does not prorate fees or apply deductions for missed classes, including medical issues, holidays and vacations. Missed classes can be made up with ½ hour class policies.
Attending class twice a week allows students to progress at a faster rate. Students are expected to attend class regularly.
There is a winter break for Christmas and New Year. Deepshikha School is closed during June and July for summer.

CLASS RULES:
1. The minimum age to begin dance lessons is 5-years old (5½ or 6 is optimum).
2. Dance classes are one-hour long.
3. Parents are not allowed in classes unless requested by the instructor or to video tape during the last 10 minutes of class.
4. Parents and students can video tape STUDENTS to support learning.
5. Please do not chew gum, eat or drink during class, other than drinking water.
6. Hair must be tied back away from the face (no bangs covering the face).
7. All students, except beginners, must wear half sarees to class. Beginners must wear salwar/kamees with a dupata to tie around the shoulder and at the waist.
8.It is important for the instructor to see the students’ feet while dancing. Please make that pants/leggings/salwars/churidars do not fall past the ankles.

Rules are made to be followed, not broken.

ASSISTANT TEACHERS:
Please note that during an emergency or Shalaka Mukhopadhayay’s absence, an assistant teacher will conduct the class. There are students who have been learning under Shalaka Mukhopadhayay for several years and senior students who have teaching skills will assist to the beginner students.

REGISTRATION FORM:
Registration Form contents basic information of the students i.e. name, age and contact information. Contact information is used to communicate with parents, students on class schedules, practice times/locations, and upcoming events. If you are interested to take admission, or your contact information has been changed then please download and fill the Registration Form and return to the teacher or assistant.

PRACTICE:
Students must practice regularly to keep up and make progress. After teaching Adavu (basic steps of Bharata Natyam ) or composition students will give exam , if they are lacking or proficiency in any particular Adavu then he/ she has to practice with 1’st year or 2’nd year students.

FINAL EXAM:
Final exam will take place first or second quarter of the semester. Each year students will give practical and theory exam of Bharata Natyam dance.
Examiner from New Mexico charges per student $15.00
Examiner from Other states charges per student $ 20.00

“NRITYANKUR”/ ANNUAL PERFORMANCE:
Nrityankur, a performance showcasing the classical dance talent of the young dance students of Deepshikha School. Annual performance will take place during first or second quarter of the semester. Student participation is required. Bharata Natyam is a performance art and presenting dance on stage is a critical part of learning.
